Makey Makeys Far Away
« on: June 23, 2013, 02:18:04 AM »
This project is about making two Makey Makeys talk to each other from anywhere in the world. (Tested on my Mac and should in theory work on most computers, but please let me know if it doesn't work for you and I will update it :). See attached...

Since Google Talk has been replaced by Hangouts, the original examples will no longer work. However, if you create accounts and use an existing Jabber service such as jabber.at this works just fine.

Goodness, I didn't know anyone else had even tried this. Have you done anything fun with it? Thanks for sharing a fix!

We've had a lot of fun with it! Excellent tutorial, thanks so much for sharing! One additional note - the serial id (set to 0 in the Processing sketch you refer to) turned out to be 5 for all the different Macs we used. This can cause a bit of confusion for those unfamiliar with Processing as no signal will be sent to the Makey Makey (but you won't get an error).
