How to create a Powerpoint controlled by Makey Makey
« on: August 05, 2016, 07:08:32 PM »
Hi,
I am a teacher trying to introduce my students to makey makey and powerpoint itself by having them create a powerpoint that is controlled by makey makey.  I have been searching but never really find anything close to a how to manual.  I am new to makey makey and would like to incorporate this as an interactive way to create powerpoints.  My ultimate goal is to have the students create voice recordings in power points and then touch various points on a map or board that will jump to a specific slide and play the voice.  I saw it done last january where a teacher had created a map of Medieval Europe and used a makey makey with some water you had to stick your finger into while touching one of the other points  on the map to complete the circuit to activate that specific slide.  I'd settle for something simple for this as I would like it to be an introduction lesson to technology.

Thank you

Liam

Hey TCagley,

Oh sure - for just a general How-To with Makey Makey, see here http://makeymakey.com/how-to/classic/

For running a presentation, you should be able to just use the arrow keys on whatever presentation software you use.  You can use the arrow keys on the Makey Makey for this.

Let us know if that answers all your questions!

Best,
Liam

Do you know how to make it jump to different pages?  I once saw a teacher complete a circuit by having it touching various different points on a map and a beaker full of water.  Once the person put their finger in the water and touched a point it would jump to that slide and play a prerecorded voice that a student had imported onto that slide.  I'm trying to create something interactive like that.

Hey TCagley,

Hmmm. . . well, you could make a program in Scratch https://scratch.mit.edu/ that shows slides and plays recordings when you press different buttons.  Like "when W key pressed, play Recording 1" etc.

You can read more about making presentations in Scratch on their forums https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/18813/?page=1#post-170830

I hope that helps!
